Pigment Removal

Sunspots, liver spots, freckles and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing and over exposure to the sun. Generally, these age spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and create a patchy, less youthful appearance. Freckling and age spots are successfully lightened or removed with Intense Pulse Light (IPL). A laser consultation is required before your first treatment, this will allow us to plan your unique treatment plan, conduct a test patch and fill in a short medical questionnaire.

FAQs about Pigmention Removal Treatments:

Is IPL pigmentation removal permanent?

Pigmentation removal is permanent if the skin is protected from the sun post treatment. An SPF 50 is always recommended to help protect the skin from all weather.

How does IPL laser pigmentation removal work?

Light is released in short pulses that are readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within pigmented lesions. The rapid absorption of light energy heats the melanin and causes the destruction of the melanin-rich cells.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of sessions depends on the size of the pigmented lesion. Up to 6 sessions is usually what’s needed then thereafter a top up session may be performed, typically once a year.

How can I prevent further pigmentation after laser?

Further pigmentation can be prevented by applying an SPF to the skin every day regardless of the weather. Hats and thin scarves can be worn in hotter weather to stop the skin from burning or catching the sun. We suggest purchasing the Lynton Lasers SPF 50 from the clinic to protect your fabulous new skin!

Is IPL laser pigmentation removal painful?

Most clients describe the process as uncomfortable but mild and tolerable.

Are the results immediate?

Initially, the pigment may appear darker and then start to flake away. The skin may appear pale at first but that will slowly fade away as the pigment disappears in the following few weeks.

What causes pigmentation?

Skin pigmentation is caused by sun damage, extreme sun exposure and skin injuries – this is why it is important to always protect your skin.
