Acne Treatment

Acne is caused by blocked hair follicles, sometimes caused by sebaceous glands which are tiny glands near the surface of the skin and are attached to your hair follicles. The glands produce oil (called sebum) to stop the skin from drying out. In acne, the glands produce too much and the excess oil binds with dead skin cells and block the follicle. Acne is greatly improved using IPL lasers as not only does the skin strengthen to assist natural healing, but the heat generated in the treated area sterilises the tissue to prevent further outbreaks and heals the residual red marks left from the acne and pustule and visibly improve the post acne texture to the skin due to the dermal regeneration. A laser consultation will take place before treatment to ensure the desired results are achieved, a small test patch will be done, and a medical questionnaire filled in too.

FAQs about the Laser Acne Treatment:

How does IPL laser improve acne?

The light emitted from the Intense Pulsed Light system directly targets overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the total number and severity of active lesions and lessening the inflammation and occurrence of break-outs. The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture and can also reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts, while sterilising the skin at the same time.

What cause acne flare ups? How can I prevent it?

Diet can have a massive impact on acne flare ups so finding trigger foods is important. It can feel like trial and error when trying to find which foods flare up your skin as they can be different for everyone. However, we find that the main foods to watch out for are salted foods (e.g., crisps, salted peanuts, and savoury snacks). Alcohol can also play factor as well as coke and other carbonated drinks. We recommend keeping a food diary and seeing what you have eaten as your skin flares up.

How many sessions are needed?

6 sessions will give a vast improvement of the appearance of the skin, however clients with more severe acne may find they need a few more sessions or frequent ‘top up’ sessions after to keep the skin sterile to prevent future outbreaks.

Does this prevent and improve scarring?

IPL laser will help prevent scarring for the active spots and improve some of the scarring. However, our Fractional laser will dramatically improve all scarring and skin texture when all active acne has gone.
