Fungal Nail Treatment

A fungal nail infection can make the affected nail discoloured and brittle. All nails on the foot with fungus should be treated and Dactarin used every day to keep any fungal activity dormant. Good foot hygiene should be followed. A laser consultation will be conducted so a test patch can take place and a medical questionnaire completed.

FAQs about the Fungal Nail Treatment:

How does the treatment work?

Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a hot pin prick or the flick of an elastic band. Whilst mildly uncomfortable, most people tolerate treatment well. A skin cooling device may be utilised to reduce any discomfort.

Is there any aftercare?

For a successful treatment, the chain of infection must also be broken. To help to do this, the homecare advice must be followed carefully. This includes bringing a clean pair of socks to every treatment, application of Dactarin or another anti-fungal cream, disinfecting nails clippers, scissors, shoes, and socks after every use and where possible, wear open toes shoes without socks whilst treatment continues. A full homecare advice sheet can be obtained from the clinic.

How many treatments are needed?

A course of 10 treatments is recommended, the treatment sessions are every 2 weeks.

How does the treatment feel? Is it painful?

A degree of heating and some discomfort is felt during treatment. However, a skin cooling device can be used to make treatment as comfortable as possible.
